About this episode
In this episode of The Intentional Fundraiser Podcast, I'm honored to talk with Christal Cherry, principal and CEO of The Board Pro about Building a Diverse and Accountable Board.
At The Board Pro, they believe that the most successful organizations understand that who's at the top matters.
Christal coaches and trains governing and working boards to harness and optimize their individual and collective talents and resources to truly make an impact in their organizations.
Her speaking topics, training, and consulting services at The Board Pro include board recruitment, governance, fundraising, conflict resolution and diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging.
Before founding The Board Pro, she spent 23 years as a nonprofit fundraiser serving higher education institutions, seminaries, and human service organizations.
Christal has a master's in counseling from Hampton University and a bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts from Hampton University. She is also a contributing writer to a profoundly insightful book about anti-black racism in the charitable sector called "Collecting Courage: Joy, Pain, Freedom, Love – Anti-Black Racism in the Charitable Sector."
Her most recent accomplishments include writing a children's book called "Mac and Cheez: Being Different Is Okay" and earning her certification as a Quadrant 3 Leadership Coach.

"What we've learned is that people of color are angry and white people are scared. So we talk about fear and anger. And try to create a space that's safe and brave where people feel comfortable speaking up and saying what's on their hearts and minds."
- Christal Cherry, Principal & CEO, The Board Pro
